In 2023, tourists in Bosnia and Herzegovina made 1,733,071 visits, which was 17.3 percent more compared to the previous year 2022, and 3,645,839 overnight stays, which was 13.2 percent more compared to 2022 year.
Compared to 2019, the year before the outbreak of the covid-19 pandemic, which until then was a record year for the number of tourists and overnight stays, 92,354 more tourists visited Bosnia and Herzegovina last year, and 274,517 more overnight stays were made.
In 2019, tourists in BiH made 1,640,717 visits, which was 12 percent more, and 3,371,322 overnight stays, which was 10.9 percent more compared to the previous year in 2018.
The number of overnight stays by domestic tourists last year was lower by 5.1 percent, while the number of overnight stays by foreign tourists was higher by 24.3 percent compared to 2022.
In the total number of overnight stays last year, the participation of domestic tourists was 31.7 percent, while 68.3 percent was the participation of foreign tourists, according to the data of the BiH Statistics Agency.
In the structure of overnight stays by foreign tourists, the most overnight stays were achieved by tourists from: Croatia (14.9 percent), Serbia (12.4 percent), Turkey (8.0 percent), Slovenia (6.8 percent), Saudi Arabia (5.0 percent), Germany (4.8 percent), the USA (3.3 percent) and the United Arab Emirates (3.1 percent), which is a total of 58.3 percent. Tourists from other countries accounted for 41.7 percent of overnight stays.
In terms of the length of stay of foreign tourists in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the first place last year were: Kuwaitis with 3.8 nights, Qataris with 3.3 nights, Egyptians and Irish with 3.2 nights, and tourists from the United Arab Emirates and Iran with 3.0 nights, France, Albania and Bahrain with 2.9 nights each.
According to the type of accommodation facility, the largest number of overnight stays was realized within the Hotels and similar accommodation sector with a share of 94.3 percent, Fena news agency writes.
