NATO says it is ready to defend itself against Threats from all Directions

NATO is ready to defend itself against any threats coming from all directions, the alliance said in a statement after a missile fired from Iran into Turkish airspace was neutralized by NATO assets.

“NATO remains ready to defend itself against any threats from any direction,” it said in a written statement to the Anadolu Agency. The statement said operational details could not be disclosed.

“We will continue to adapt our ballistic missile defense system to changing threats,” NATO said.

Turkey’s National Defense Ministry said earlier on Friday that a ballistic missile fired from Iran into Turkish airspace had been neutralized by NATO air and missile defense assets deployed in the eastern Mediterranean.

Similar incidents occurred on March 4 and 9, and in both cases they were also neutralized by NATO air and missile defense elements.

Turkey joined NATO in 1952 as part of the alliance’s first post-war expansion.
