Public company Nature Park Hutovo blato Čapljina started with the implementation of the project “Eco-hydrological revitalization of Deran Lake through the natural redistribution of Jelim Lake waters”. The project is co-financed by the Environmental Protection Fund of the Federation of BiH, and the implementation will last 12 months.

The main goal of the project is to define and structure a theoretical hydrological model for improving the regime of natural water supply and eco-hydrological revitalization of Deran Lake.

Also, the goal of the project is to define the recent ecological status of aquatic and semi-aquatic types of habitats that are formed next to open and semi-open water areas by Jelim Lake and the system of drainage canals, as well as the creation of a GIS-based base model of the bathymetric plan of Deran Lake, and its application in defining the minimum amounts of water for improvement of the existing ecohydrological status of the Deran mud.

The improvement of the general hydrological conditions in Lake Deran is a minimum prerequisite for the survival and improvement of the existing ecological status of both natural habitats and the diversity of species of flora and fauna belonging to them in the area of the entire Deran mud.

The implementation of the project was supported by the Environmental Protection Fund of the Federation of BiH with 80,000 BAM through the Public Call for the allocation of funds for the implementation of programs, projects and similar activities in the field of environmental protection for 2023, while the Public Enterprise Hutovo Blato Nature Park co-financed the project with 20,000 BAM, Fena news agency writes.
