aerodrom sarajevoSarajevo International Airport denied speculations that negotiations between the Sarajevo airport and the company WizzAir on potential flights from Sarajevo were stopped because of high expenses and they confirmed that negotiations are in the final stage.

“The public will be informed about the outcome of negotiations soon,” stated the Sarajevo International Airport.

WizzAir confirmed that this company is currently negotiating with many airports.

“We do not comment on rumors and speculations, but we can confirm that at every moment we are negotiating with many airports on future expansion and we will publish news important for a certain market at the same moment when we have them,” WizzAir stated.

It is known that delegations of the Sarajevo Airport and WizzAir held two meetings this year, when it was stated that after Tuzla, where the main headquarters of WizzAir in BiH is, they intend to establish flights from Sarajevo as well and that they are interested in investing in the Sarajevo Airport.

Director General of WizzAir Jozesf Varadi said that they want to make an adequate contract with the Sarajevo Airport, but that they are very expensive and that the Sarajevo Airport must reduce the price. Namely, low cost companies avoided the Sarajevo Airport because of double taxation.

Apart from the standard 18 EUR of taxes per passenger, passengers also pay additional 10 EUR of federal tax, which was introduced in 2005, and Tuzla and Mostar are exempt from that tax.
