Negotiations with Gazprom on a New Contract Tomorrow

gasRepresentatives of Energoinvest are traveling today to Moscow for further negotiations regarding extension of the contract with Gazprom on gas imports in B&H. Mehmed Koldzo, chief negotiator of Energoinvest with Gazprom, says that it is difficult to say anything about the conditions that can be expected, but it is possible that B&H will import gas at a bit lower prices.

“In comparison to 5 or 6 years before, we now have 2.5 times lower price of the gas. However, USD is slightly stronger now, so all these parameters should be taken into account,” said Koldzo.

By comparison, B&H citizens, according to the former director of BH-Gas Almir Becarevic, paid the gas at the price between 340 and 510 BAM in 2005/06, while the current price paid by citizens is 754 BAM per 1,000 m3.

“The final price of the gas is influenced by several factors, such as the cost of transportation to B&H, the trend of USD in relation to BAM, penalties charged on the debt to the supplier and transporter of gas, interest rates on loans etc.” said Sendijarevic.

Price is the main reason why more and more citizens are giving up on gas and switching to other types of fuel.

“I am doing this job for 11 years and it is true that a reduction in the gas consumption took place. 11 years ago we were importing 350 million m3, and this year we imported only about 160 million m3 so far,” said Koldzo.

One of the topics at the negotiations will be a delay in the payment of invoices, as well as the delay in payment of the war debt.

Special problem is the fact that the liberalization of the market started, which means that anyone will be able to import gas in future, while it has not been defined how the war debt will be paid.

“Only FB&H was paying the debt so far, RS never paid single BAM,” concluded Koldzo.
