The Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Nenad Nesic, met yesterday in Rome with the Minister of Internal Affairs of Italy, Matteo Piantedosi.
Minister Nesic emphasized that Italy is a key partner of BiH on its European path and an important ally in fulfilling the priorities of the Ministry of Security of BiH.
Moreover, he recalled that BiH received the status of a candidate for membership in the European Union (EU) and that the goal of the Ministry of Security is to be the leader of that process.
The first major job that has been completed along the way is the establishment of full operational cooperation with EUROPOL, and the next goal is an agreement with FRONTEX.
The Ministry of Security does not aim for BiH to lag behind the rest of the Western Balkans regarding the establishment of cooperation with this European agency, said Nesic and announced that he will seek help and support in the negotiations in Brussels at meetings with several other EU ministers.
This primarily refers to the negotiations on the structure of the deployment of FRONTEX forces, the issue of their immunity, and action in accordance with the stated needs of the police bodies of BiH.
During the visit, they also discussed the current situation in the field of migration and the joint contribution to preserving regional and European security, the Ministry of Security of BiH announced.
