The adopted cantonal A list of medicines is adjusted to the federal list as a generic list, while the cantonal list defines the lists on the basis of the name of the producer.

This year’s A list of medicines in the Sarajevo Canton, the so-called Essential list, includes 153 medicines in 605 forms and packages. What distinguished this list from the previous ones is that all medicines on this list are made by domestic producers. The so-called originators, i.e. the original holders of medical licenses, were added to domestic pharmaceutical houses Hemofarm, Amsal, Bosnalijek, Zada and Farmavita.

With the adoption of this list, that was prepared by the expert cantonal Commission for medicines in cooperation with health institutions and in accordance with the expressed needs, the Government respected the conclusion by the Assembly of the Sarajevo Canton which requested the inclusion of as many domestic pharmaceutical houses in the creation of essential list of medicines as possible. In this way, it is easier to conduct control of medicines and to protect the domestic production, which is a practice implemented by countries in the region and broader.

The adopted B list of medicines treats medicines that are preferred in healing therapies and is co-financed by health insurance in percentages between 10 and 100 percent. The hospital list includes medicines exclusively for hospital treatment. After it is published in the Official Gazette of the Sarajevo Canton, the integral Essential list of medicines will be available at the web page of the Ministry of Health of the Sarajevo Canton.
