New helicopters for the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina (AFBiH), type “Bell Huey II”, were delivered from the United States (U.S.) to Sarajevo International Airport.
These are four helicopters, whose procurement contract has a total value of 38.539.378 U.S. dollars, of which BiH participated with 4.360.000 dollars, or 7.5 million convertible marks, through the “Foreign Military Sales” (FMS) program. The remaining amount was provided by the U.S. Government with funds from the U.S. program to help friendly countries “Foreign Military Financing” (FMF).
The UH-1H-II Huey II military helicopter has been modernized, improved, and a cheaper variant of the UH-1H Iroquois general-purpose helicopter (also known as “Huey”), which is in the inventory of the Air Force and Air Defense Brigade of the AFBiH. With this acquisition, the Brigade will be able to continue and better perform the tasks of air transport, medical evacuation, firefighting, search and rescue, as well as other tasks in fulfilling the main missions of the AF.
Technicians and specialists of the AFBiH and the U.S.manufacturer “Bell Helicopters” immediately began thepreparation for test flights.
The official handover of the helicopter is planned after the test flights.
