The Prime Minister of Canton Sarajevo (CS) Nihad Uk announced on his Facebook profile the arrival of the first of 15 new trams that should arrive in Sarajevo in the upcoming period.

Nihad Uk started his post by paraphrasing the name of a popular movie.

“ ‘We will no longer name the tram desire‘ (”A Streetcar Named Desire”). Just a few more stops and it will be on the Sarajevo tracks. The first of 15 new trams will arrive in Sarajevo.

The citizens of CS and their guests will finally, after 40 years, ride in new trams, equipped with modern equipment and harmonized with existing European standards.

The Government and the Ministry of Transport of CS provided funds for the purchase of new vehicles, which is one of the first major steps in strengthening the quality of public transport in CS,” wrote Uk.
