The Prime Minister of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Nermin Nikšić, said today, after visiting the Kreka brown coal mine in Tuzla, that the FBiH Government is looking for models according to which coal mining would be at a satisfactory level for the Electric Power Company of BiH, and so that the Federation would have enough electricity for its needs and for export.
He pointed out that the miners and the Management of that mine responded positively to the measures of the Government of FBiH and Elektroprivreda BiH that were implemented in the last three years and that they are leaders in coal production.
“Based on what we heard here, there is a perspective in the mine, and we were also informed that a competition has been announced for the employment of new miners for whom there is great interest. This shows that people see the opportunity again and believe in what is being done here, and they also have information that the standard miner has grown quite a bit lately,” said Nikšić.
He added that next week the Government will try to prepare a legal decision on consolidation, which would be a bitter step forward for RMU Kreka, because by selling non-promising assets, they would create funds for tying up the working years of some miners, as well as further prerequisites for the development of the mine.
General Director of Elektroprivreda BiH Sanel Buljubasic emphasized that the meeting resulted in concrete programs that should be developed in the coming period in order to obtain additional quantities of coal in the mines of the Concern and create a stable situation with the production of electricity.
He reminded that Elektroprivreda BiH produces about 80 percent of electricity in thermal power plants, which is why the stability of mines is extremely important for the stability of the energy sector in the Federation of BiH.
