Even though there are certain information that there is a possibility that Jusuf Nurkić will miss the qualifications for the EuroBasket 2017, the Basketball Federation of BiH claims that is not going to happen.
Allegedly, the leaders of Denver Nuggets, whose member is Nurkić, asked from our center to miss the qualifications for the EuroBasket in order to be more ready for the following season of NBA league.
”Selector Mulaomerović is in constant contact with Nurkić, and Jusuf did not mention something like that. The office of the Basketball Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina is also in contact with the leaders of NBA league and they don’t see any reason why Nurkić shouldn’t answer the call of the selector,” says the secretary general of the highest basketball governing body in BiH, Dubravko Barbarić.
Barbarić added that they fulfilled anything that the leaders of the strongest basketball league asked.
”We paid the insurance for Nurkić’s performance in the qualification, and soon we will pay for Mirza Teletović. We already have money for Teletović, we’re just waiting for the NBA league to deliver accounting. We’re certainly going to have both NBA players in our roster,” says Barbarić.
The selector of BiH National Team, Damir Mulaomerović also confirmed that Nurkić and Teletović are coming to the preparations.
”I spoke to Nurkić a few days ago and he cannot wait to come for the preparations. He is highly motivated, and everything he did this summer was subordinated to the performance in BiH jersey. Maybe people in Denver want Jusuf to miss the qualifications, but his big and exclusive desire is to play for BiH National Team and I’m sure he will not miss the gathering. And Teletović, too,” said Mulaomerović, adding that our NBA players will miss the beginning of the preparations in Tuzla because of the rules governed by the agreement between NBA league and FIBA.
”NBA players in national teams have a right to train up to four weeks. Mirza will come on August 7, due to private obligations, while we’re expecting Jusuf between August 1 and 7. The important thing is that they will be there during the most important part of the preparations, since during the first period of the preparations we’re going to dedicate more time to the young players who are included in the list,” says Damir Mulaomerović.
