A spokesman of the Office of the High Representative (OHR) in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Mario Brkic, said in a statement for Federal News Agency that Serbia, as a legal successor to the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, has taken over certain obligations by signing the General Framework Agreement for Peace – the Dayton Agreement.

“Among other things, it has committed itself to full respect for the sovereignty of Bosnia-Herzegovina and avoiding any activities that would be directed against the independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and agreed to promote and respect the obligations arising from Annex 4 or the Constitution of BiH,” Brkic emphasized.

He also noted that the Agreement was signed by the then Republic of Bosnia-Herzegovina, the then Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and the Republic of Croatia.

“The European Union, the Republic of France, the Federal Republic of Germany, the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom and the United States were witness countries,” Brkic said.

The Strategy for Defense and National Security of the Republic of Serbia, emphasizes the preservation of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s entity of Republika Srpska as the national interest of Serbia and its foreign policy priority.

This part of the Strategy has been condemned by many BiH officials saying it is an attack on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia-Herzegovina.
