The Prosecutor’s Office of BiH has never brought any Indictment for the Siege of Sarajevo

The Association of Victims and Witnesses of Genocide, on the occasion of the anniversary of the massacre at the Markale market, point out that there is not a single indictment for the siege of Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).

Yesterday in 1994, 68 civilians, citizens of besieged Sarajevo, were killed and 144 were wounded at the Markale market in Sarajevo.

The International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) found that all the grenades fired, and thus all the crimes committed from 1992 to 1995 against the city of Sarajevo, were part of a joint criminal plan and a crime against humanity.

Because of this, the court in The Hague indicted Slobodan Milosevic and sentenced Radovan Karadzic, Ratko Mladic, Stanislav Galic, and Dragomir Milosevic.

”It was legally binding and ruled that the city of Sarajevo was under siege by Serbian formations. There is not a single indictment for the siege of Sarajevo in BiH, therefore, the association calls on all officials and other persons and institutions to, when marking the anniversaries related to the siege, point out the civilizational and international shame that the BiH judiciary has not charged anyone for the siege of Sarajevo,” the Association of Genocide Victims and Witnesses stated.

They point out that this will be the best way to prevent the crime from falling into oblivion and fulfill the debt owed to the victims.

”Marking without calling for the persecution of criminals is like a liberation struggle in which you do not have or do not use ammunition against aggressors and villains. For the umpteenth time, we invite the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH to access Annex B of the revised BiH strategy,” they emphasize.

Annex B contains the names of those responsible for shelling and sniping during the siege of Sarajevo, and the names of the suspects were submitted by the court in The Hague in accordance with the rules of the Treaty of Rome.

The capital of BiH was under siege for 1.425 days, but the state prosecutor’s office never filed a single indictment against those directly responsible for the shelling and sniper terror of Sarajevo.
