milkThe joint action of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations, the Veterinary Office, and milk producers from BiH, is proof that hard work pays off. The harmonization of legislation and the conditions of production in dairies, in accordance with European Union norms, has resulted in the approval of exports of dairy products from eight dairies in BiH.

Yesterday the first truck of dairy products from Milkos in Sarajevo was transported to Croatia, as was confirmed by company director Adin Fakić.

“We signed a contract with a company from Croatia who has represented us even before the exports to the EU was put on hold. Today’s was the first truck that has gone to Croatia. Aside from that, we’re in the final phase of negotiations with a German company, which works in Germany, Austria and the Benelux countries. We expect that this will help farmers in our country because of the competitiveness and the market price of milk in the EU” said Fakić.

Following the completion of the mission of the European Commission’s Directorate for health and food and analysis, it was found that our country meets all the requirements for the export of milk products to the EU market. Consequently, a total of eight companies obtained their license to export their products.

The diary farms that obtained permits for the export of dairy products in the EU are “Eco Sir Puđa” from Livno, “Euro Food” Sarajevo, “Poljorad” from Travnik and “Dairy Industry Mliječna industrija 99” from Gradačac. In addition to these, the companies who had previously received permission to export dairy produce are “Meggle” from Bihać, “Mljekara Livno”, “Mlijekoprodukt” from Kozarska Dubica and “Milkos” from Sarajevo.

“Our plans are to expand sales abroad and increase the number of countries where we export; we believe that we’ll meet all our expectations by October” said Fakić.

The increase in exports will be directly reflected in the increase in the numbers of employees, but will also enable the launch of new products.

“Milkos plans to introduce new products, and this applies to the production of cheese, which will of course mean more employees. We will continue to invest in local staff, so we are proud to say that of the 134 persons employed in our company, 20 have achieved a higher education at the University of Sarajevo” says Fakić.
