OHR comments on Schmidt’s Testimony in the “Kovacevic” Case

High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina Christian Schmidt will address the European Court of Human Rights in the case of “Slaven Kovačević”. The OHR says that Schmidt will provide independent and objective information to the European Court of Human Rights when it comes to the case of Slaven Kovačević.

“The High Representative will agree to provide independent information to the European Court of Human Rights in the capacity of “friend of the court” (Amicus Curiae), as the High Representative has done before in many other cases. It is a common practice,” the OHR said.

As they said, the High Representative does not take sides but contributes as the country’s final authority on the interpretation of the civilian aspects of the Dayton Peace Agreement to provide information on the Dayton Framework.

“The High Representative continuously called on politicians in Bosnia and Herzegovina to implement the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights in cases such as Sejdić/Finci, Zornić and others, and to amend the constitution in order to end discrimination. The High Representative’s competence includes, among other things, care for the sustainable development of democracy in Bosnia and Herzegovina,” the statement added.

We remind you that after the information appeared that the high representative Christian Schmidt will also testify before the court in Strasbourg, Slaven Kovačević spoke up saying that “Schmidt is working in the interest of the HDZ”.

Kovačević claims that the court did not summon Schmidt, but that Schmidt himself, through a British law firm, asked to appear in court.

“Otherwise, he is a big supporter of the HDZ and their policies, who as the Minister of Agriculture of Germany probably gained some unimaginable great diplomatic experience. This man disavows the BiH public that the court invited him to appear as a friend of the court, which does not exist in the rules of the court in Strasbourg,” Kovačević pointed out earlier.

Klix.ba sent an inquiry to the OHR in which they asked whether the high representative decided to speak before the court on his own initiative or was invited, but they did not receive an answer to that question until the publication of this text, Klix.ba writes.
