Iris Kljucic“One mug, one step – one step, one smile” is the name of the humanitarian campaign that Naida Zulum-Kljucic from Tuzla started for her four-year-old daughter Iris in order to collect funds for her hips operation.

Iris came to the world in the 31st week of pregnancy, and as a premature baby she stopped breathing and was placed in an incubator where she spent 25 days.

After leaving the hospital, parents noticed that the baby has some health problems and after detailed medical examinations, little Iris got the official diagnosis of Paralysis cerebralis (Diplegia Spastica – GMFCS level III).

Despite daily exercises at home, at the University Clinical Center in Tuzla and the Centre for children with multiple disabilities Koraci nade (Steps of Hope), Iris still cannot walk independently.

However, on its way to the goal would help her a hip operation in Serbia that requires almost 6,000 BAM.

“Iris had four examinations in Serbia, and due to clinical death that struck her in 2015, she had not been ready for operation. However, the situation is better now so Iris can bear new procedure”, says Naida Zulum-Kljucic.

How successful will be the surgery depends on the postoperative treatment, and rehabilitation, which takes another 6,000 BAM.

“The figure is still not officially determined because after surgery we will know how many cycles of rehabilitation will be needed,” she said, adding that Iris had four strabismus surgery in both eyes.

Since the mother Naida did not want to leave things to chance, she decided to start a small business and she now decorates mugs according to customer’s request, and the money collected from the sale is focused on the treatment of her four-year-old baby girl.

Depending on the shape and type of mug, the price is between 5 and 8 BAM.

“The process of decorating mugs is complex, but nothing is difficult to me because I know that this effort is for the healing of my daughter,” added this brave mother.

All additional information can be obtained via the Facebook profile Iris Lavica Zmajica.
