On 6th of June last year, Pope Francis visited Sarajevo. After a one-day stay in the capital of BiH, Pope Francis left the city at 8:40 pm.
The head of the Catholic Church invited Croats, Bosniaks and Serbs in BiH to build harmony and peace, saying that “it is a job which is being done every day, step by step”.
“Peace is a work of justice, which is applied and lived. A person, the people whom I saw as an enemy, has the same face like I, my heart, my soul. True justice would be to do to those people everything that I would like someone to do to me and my people,” Pope Francis said then.
Pope Francis highlighted that “creation of peace is a skill; it requires passion, patience, experience, stability”. “Blessed are those who sow peace with everyday work and gestures of serving, of brotherhood, of mercy,” Pope Francis said.
“We pray to God to have a unified heart, full of patience and devotion to justice, to advocate for peace and create peace, not war and discord. That is the only path which makes us happy and blessed,” said Pope Francis.
Pope’s message was “Peace be with you”.
On the Koševo Stadium, where the central mass washeld, one could see numerous Chinese, Ukrainian, Macedonian, Polish, Vatican and Croatian flags, and right before the beginning of the mass 53 choires, ten of which were from Croatia, jointly performed the song “Krist na žalu”.
Around 67.000 pilgrims gathered on the stadium.
