The Civil Protection of Sarajevo Canton has issued a warning to legal and natural persons to take preventive measures for protection and rescue from flash floods and has called on the municipal civil protection services in the area of Sarajevo Canton to be on alert.
“Given that, according to the notification on the emergency hydrological situation forecast of September 21, of the Agency for the Sava River Water Area, in the period from September 23 to 25, due to significant rainfall, the water level is forecast to rise in the entire water area of the Sava River in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and that there are risks of flash floods, among other things, in the Bosna river basin, and that an extraordinary hydrological situation is forecast in the coming days, especially in the area of the upper and middle parts of the Bosna river basin, we recommend all legal and natural persons to take preventive measures in order to protect health and lives of people, as well as material and cultural assets, immediately in accordance with their competences, as well as their obligations, which are prescribed by the Law on the Protection and Rescue of People and Material Assets from Natural and Other Disasters, take the necessary preventive measures to protect against floods, because this will to create conditions for a more efficient and faster response of all subjects of the protection and rescue system in a comprehensive response to potential challenges and threats from floods, and thus major material damage, as well as possible injuries and human casualties, will be avoided,” stated the Civil Protection of KS.
In particular, they appeal to the municipal civil protection services from the area of Sarajevo Canton to continuously visit the areas most at risk from flooding and to immediately put their organized protection and rescue forces on alert, so that they are ready as first response forces, in accordance with their competences and obligations under the protection and rescue plans react to potentially heavy rainfall in the area of their municipalities.
