Over 1,500 Children were vaccinated in Canton Sarajevo in the last Seven Days

In the past seven days, more than 1,500 children were vaccinated in Sarajevo Canton with the MMR vaccine, which protects against measles, mumps and rubella.

The Government of Sarajevo Canton called on the parents of unvaccinated children to do so, because it is the most they can do for their children, to prevent the spread of the disease and possible more serious complications in case of illness.

After the emergence of cases of measles virus infection in the Tuzla Canton, and later in Sarajevo, two special MMR vaccination points were opened on Thursday last week at the Vrazova and Saraj Polje Health Centers.

At these two points, as well as in regular preschool dispensaries, immunization of healthy children will continue to be carried out without notice or appointment, every day in two shifts.

In order to make it easier for children and parents due to the vaccination organization, the relevant Ministries of Education and Health of Sarajevo Canton agreed that school-aged children who receive the vaccine will be exempted from classes that day.

Also, the Ministry of Education issued an instruction to extend the deadline for the delivery of medical certificates for enrollment in kindergarten and school, so that parents do not have to take their children to the Health Center and create a crowd, and risk the transmission of infection.

According to the Minister of Health of the Canton Sarajevo, Enis Hasanović, the epidemiological situation related to the measles infection in Sarajevo Canton is under control, and currently does not require additional measures such as the closure of educational institutions.
