13141081_1763801883856488_1525709717_nCitizens of Sarajevo weekly spend more than 3 tons of fish from only one fish farms at sea, domestic one from Neum, and they are the biggest consumers of this kind of meat, which is distributed several times a week in Tuzla, Banja Luka, Mostar and Medjugorje as well.

Owner of fish farm “Karaka” from Neum, Marinko Lovric, said that he is not exporting the more fish abroad anymore, because he sells everything on the domestic market.

“I’m glad that our people recognized the quality of domestic production. We gained the trust of domestic market, which is the most difficult thing to achieve, and that is the confirmation of quality work as well,” said Lovric.

He praised the relation of the country towards the fish farmers and he says that the incentives that farmers are regularly receiving in the past 5 years, it contributed to the popularization and development of fish farming, but he expressed dissatisfaction with the foreign suppliers of fish, Greeks, Turks and Croats, which are doing price dumping.

Lovric is planning the development of fish farms in the fresh water as well, and he does it by purchasing trout from several BiH fish farms.

He is sure that the capacity of domestic farms can be expanded and that it will be achieved in the future period, and that this, in continuity, is contributed by the growers and the country with its services.

Expert in ichthyology and aquaculture and professor at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at the University of Sarajevo, Adem Hamzic, said that the quality of fish grown in BiH farms was recognized by the European Union and that is the reason why they allowed import into their member countries.
