It is not easy to achieve what is wanted, but we were specific. “These were talks with political leaders and we are positively surprised that they expressed readiness to reach an agreement that will be beneficial for BiH and its progress as well as for all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” envoy for the Western Balkans Matthew Palmer said after a meeting with opposition party leaders.

A working lunch of opposition party leaders in Bosnia and Herzegovina was held in Sarajevo with the US Envoy for the Western Balkans Matthew Palmer and Executive Director for Western Europe, the Western Balkans, Turkey and the United Kingdom at the European External Action Service (EEAS) Angelina Eichhorst.

After the meeting, Palmer said he was very pleased to be in Sarajevo again.

“We are here to express the solidarity of the United States and the European Union with Bosnia and Herzegovina, and especially to support BiH in its move towards EU membership,” Palmer said.

He added that they had very good and consultative talks today.

“Of course, it is not easy to achieve what is wanted, but we were specific. “These were talks with political leaders and we are positively surprised that they expressed readiness to reach an agreement that will be beneficial for BiH and its progress, as well as for all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” Palmer said.

He mentioned that they do not have any solutions, but that they are ready to encourage talks.

“By doing so, we want to give this injection of urgency how important it is to resolve these issues and that there is a chance in 2021, which is not an election year, to resolve issues such as electoral reform, such as limited constitutional reform and election-related legislation, ”Palmer said.

Eichhorst stated that the aim of all these meetings is to encourage all actors to start working on important topics, including the implementation of the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights.

“We had a very good dialogue and we touched on the OSCE recommendations regarding the election process itself. We heard a lot of encouraging messages and we sent the same from our side. Their main goal is to eliminate the discrimination established in the legal framework of BiH, eliminate corruption, prevent all thefts and other violations of the Election Law. Once again, I would like to thank all the actors today for their constructive dialogue. The EU and the US are united in their positions when it comes to working on these issues, ”Eichhorst said, BHRT writes.
