peace marchAround 5 000 participants on a traditional peace march “Nezuk – Srebrenica 2014”, which is being held to mark the anniversary of the genocide against Bosniaks in Srebrenica and its surroundings, in order to honor the victims of the genocide and remind of the horrific crimes in July 1995, will arrive on the final destination tomorrow.

“We expected around 5,000 participants. We are pleased that this year’s march is made up of about 70 percent of young people aged 15-30,” said the vice president of the subcommittee for the organization of the “Peace March”, Muhizin Omerović.

He added that the participants this year will be given logistics support by the FBiH Ministry of Displaced Persons and Refugees of BiH and the BiH Armed Forces.

“The Ministry secured the logistics, while the BiH Armed Forces provided helicopters in case of emergency. We also heard from a large number of humanitarian organizations, including the USAID which will on the first day of the march distribute water and fruits,” said Omerović.

“Organizers also secured water tanks at all checkpoints, and the locals will welcome participants and offer them coffee,” stressed Omerović and recalled that last year, about 4,400 people participated in the march.

He pointed out that the number of participants increases every year and people come from all over the world.

At the end of the march participants will have the opportunity to attend the memorial service and participate in performing the funeral prayer and burial of the identified victims of the genocide, found in mass grave sites which they passed by during the course of the peace march.
