Pezeshkian: Tehran has no Intention of developing Nuclear Weapons

Iran will never pursue nuclear weapons, as it is prohibited by the country’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated during a meeting with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi.

“Based on the Supreme Leader’s fatwa, we have not sought and will not seek to develop nuclear weapons in any way, and no one is permitted to deviate from this policy,” Pezeshkian said, according to a statement from his office.

He added that Tehran is willing to cooperate to resolve issues and dispel doubts about Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities.

Pezeshkian accused the United States (U.S.) of violating agreements regarding Iran’s nuclear program.

“According to IAEA reports, we have met all our obligations under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, yet the U.S. unilaterally withdrew from the agreement in 2018, blocking any further progress,” Pezeshkian stated.

Kamal Kharrazi, an adviser to Iran’s supreme leader, said on November 1st that Tehran could reconsider its nuclear doctrine in the face of an existential threat to the country.

He noted that Iran has the technical capacity to produce nuclear weapons, with the Supreme Leader’s decision being the only obstacle.

Since 2003, Iran has adhered to a fatwa issued by the Supreme Leader that bans the production of nuclear weapons, as it contradicts Islamic principles. Iranian officials have cited this as proof of the exclusively peaceful nature of the national nuclear program.
