The Prime Minister of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Nermin Nikšić, announced today on social networks that last week he discussed with the presidents of the SNSD Milorad Dodik and the HDZ of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dragan Čović, about a number of topics that previously everyone persistently avoided.
“No one wants to take responsibility and offer an answer as to how we will get to Bosnia and Herzegovina as I would like to experience. The question is who can implement it and how in the rest of our country? Will it allow us to have constant fights, conflicts, mutual insults? Will we achieve this through populism, multi-year blockades and raising national tensions, creating an atmosphere of fear to cover up their inaction, incompetence and crime? – wrote Nikšić.
He added that he sees that there are many who choose the approach of intimidating people on topics such as the electoral law, amendments to the Constitution, arranging borders with neighboring countries and the like, but that they have decided to try something different, which is why they talk about everything and what they disagree on.
“There are no guarantees that we will succeed, but I am sure that if we do not talk and try, then we certainly have no chance of succeeding. We are, we are talking and we will talk about the Electoral Law. The current solution leaves a lot of room for electoral fraud, which is disastrous for democracy. That’s why we have to adapt that law to the current political and social situations, and especially to the judgments of the Court for Human Rights,” said Nikšić.
He pointed out that if we want to establish economic and political security and if we want to be accepted at the international level as a serious partner, we must start solving our own internal problems, and avoiding discussions on numerous difficult topics has put us in an unenviable position, economic stagnation and stopped everything reforms and our country’s path to the EU.
“We have decided to take responsibility for solving problems, even difficult ones. We are not afraid to open any topic because we know that we will not agree to anything that would worsen or threaten the rights of any citizen, any nation or society as a whole. Our goal is the well-being of Bosnia and Herzegovina, an accelerated path to the EU and membership in NATO. But to be precise, no decision of importance for nations and citizens can be made without a two-thirds majority, that is, without the support of representatives of both entities, all three nations and almost all parliamentary parties,” claims Nikšić.
He emphasized that patriotism is not proven by lies and calling out others for alleged betrayal, but by their own actions, and that today patriots are those who are ready to work in the interests of citizens and who strive to create political and economic security so that citizens can have a comfortable life and not would leave the country in search of a better future.
Nikšić underlined that it is high time to move from the division into patriots and traitors to the division into those who work for the welfare of the state and the people and those who only engage in quarrels, populism and corruption.
“In order to be able to move forward, to stop the departure of people from Bosnia and Herzegovina, to attract foreign and retain domestic investors, to develop a better social policy, we must create a politically and economically safe environment. We can achieve this only through discussion and compromise, not through blockades as has been the case so far. The time of maintaining power by intimidating citizens is in the past. We will seek the support of citizens through concrete results and by creating conditions for growth and development, as well as by restoring mutual trust,” wrote Nikšić.
