Yesterday, the Minister of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Sifet Podzic, and his Deputy Mirko Okolic received a farewell visit from the former Commander of the European Union Force (EUFOR) in BiH, Austrian Major General Alexander Platzer, and the newly appointed EUFOR Commander Major General Anton Wessely.

Minister Podzic and Deputy Okolic thanked General Platzer for the excellent cooperation between the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of BiH (AFBiH) with EUFOR. The mediation of EUFOR staff in the decision of the European External Action Service (EEAS) to approve a donation of 10 million euros for the Demining Battalion of the AFBiH after the verbal note of the BiH Minister of Defense was especially emphasized.

The conversation also highlighted the significant assistance of EUFOR in the project of destroying surplus weapons and marking small arms and light weapons in BiH, as well as activities in various forms of military training.

Namely, the culmination of the cooperation was achieved in the joint participation in the largest EUFOR exercise in BiH so far “Quick Response 2021″. Both Minister Podzic and Deputy Okolic wished the newly appointed EUFOR Commander General Wessely a successful mandate in BiH and offered every form of cooperation to further develop joint activities of the AFBiH and EUFOR, even in the current complex political circumstances.

General Platzer pointed out that members of the AFBiH have always shown a high degree of professionalism and dedication in all activities. He expressed confidence that General Wessley would successfully lead EUFOR, for the benefit of all citizens of BiH. The meeting was also attended by BiH Assistant Minister of Defense for International Cooperation Zoran Sajinovic and BiH Defense Minister Chief of Staff Kemal Korjenic.
