The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland donated 10,000 euros to help the victims of the floods that hit Bosnia and Herzegovina in early October. These funds will be redirected by the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Sarajevo with the help of the BiH Red Cross Society to the families that suffered the most in the floods.
The contract was signed on behalf of Poland yesterday by Ambassador Andrzej Jasionowski in the premises of the Red Cross Society in Sarajevo, the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Sarajevo announced.
Basic humanitarian items will be purchased according to the needs of the affected population, ensuring timely and appropriate support. Families in greatest need will also be given vouchers worth 500 BAM, which will allow them the flexibility to meet their urgent needs. In total, around 70 families affected by the floods will receive direct aid ahead of the coming winter.
Poland also immediately after the floods offered help under the European Union’s Civil Protection Mechanism and was ready to send a rescue team with sniffer dogs. In addition, Poland provided material assistance that includes 200 blankets, 200 extra beds, 600 disposable sheets, 200 pillows and one pump unit.
The total value of the delivered goods from the Government Agency for Strategic Reserves amounts to more than 80,000 euros. The humanitarian convoy is already being prepared and will soon leave Poland to provide the necessary aid as quickly as possible.
Poland, which also experienced catastrophic flooding this year, understands well the challenges faced by communities affected by floods and landslides. In the spirit of solidarity and international cooperation, Poland supports BiH in the reconstruction and return to normal life, showing that joint actions are key to overcoming natural disasters, according to the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Sarajevo.
