Polling stations for the local elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina were opened this morning at 7:00 am, and citizens will have the opportunity to exercise their right to vote until 7:00 PM.

The elections are being held for the first time in the conditions of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Central Election Commission of BiH stated that compliance with the prescribed epidemiological measures must not be an obstacle to the legal conduct of the election process.

Citizens can vote by showing one of the valid BiH identification documents (identity card, driver’s license, passport) and at the polling station the voter receives a combination of ballots that belongs to him and exercises the right to vote.

The secrecy of the vote was ensured at the polling station, according to the CEC.

The CEC reminds that in the 2020 local elections, the following are elected: 64 municipal councils in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, 56 municipal assemblies in the Republika Srpska, 120 mayors in BiH, 14 city councils in the Federation of BiH, seven city assemblies in the Republika Srpska , 22 mayors in BiH and the Assembly of the Brcko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Guaranteed seats for members of national minorities are provided in 21 municipalities for 23 candidates.

A total of 30,809 candidates were certified, of which 425 candidates for non-mayors, 30,188 candidates for municipal councils or municipal assemblies or city councils or city assemblies and the Brcko District Assembly of BiH, and 196 candidates representing national minorities.
