What is the Position of NATO on Registration of prospective Military Assets?

After the Constitutional Court of BiH rejected the appeal of BH entity of Republika Srpska (RS) and practically ordered the registration of prospective military assets on the state of BiH, certain information appeared such as the one that the path to the MAP program is opened now, which represents the last step before our country is fully accepted to the NATO.

However, the position of NATO Staff in Sarajevo denied these rumors.

“The Allies are still waiting on registration of prospective military assets on the state of BiH. There is a total of 57 locations in BiH. To recall, that number was 63 locations according to the earlier decision of the Presidency of BiH, but it was reduced to 57 locations. All these locations are mentioned in the Review of Defense document, which was adopted by the Presidency of BiH. It will be possible to talk about the activation of the MAP program by NATO only when the procedure of registration of all locations is completed,” said Ines Kuburovic, spokesman of NATO in Sarajevo.

However, according to sources close to NATO, members of the Alliance are ready to “soften” their attitude towards BiH.

Until now, all assets that were registered in BiH were the property of the FBiH. As soon as the property gets registered in the RS, or when several locations in that entity are transferred into the ownership of BiH, members of NATO could make a final decision on activation of the MAP.
