The documentary “Srebrenica Survivors,” directed by the BH director Samir Mehanović, will be premiered on July 11th this year on BBC.
The film will be broadcasted on BBC World, which means that 500 million people will be able to see this work, reports the Bhdinfodesk from Birmingham.
Mehanović emphasizes that the aim of the film is to present the suffering of the survivors of Srebrenica who were victims of the greatest genocide committed in Europe since the World War II.
“Unfortunately, among the perpetrators-the Serbs, there are many of those who still deny that Serbs committed genocide against Bosniaks, and I sincerely hope that my film will contribute to starting a dialogue on this subject, to present all the facts, because then it would probably be hard to find justification for the brutal genocide against 8,732 Bosniak men in Srebrenica”, the author says.
It is expected that the “Srebrenica Survivors” is to be screened at many film festivals around the world.
Besides BBC World, part of the film will be shown on BBC 2 Newsnight on the 9th or 10th of July, and BH viewers will be able to see the film on FACE TV on July 11th, as well as at the premiere in Sarajevo the same night.
“The film was made with great renunciation and with very few resources. It was filmed by my friend Gavin Wolfe Murray and me, and I edited the film in my apartment with a young editor Laurra Carreira from Portugal. Today’s technology makes it possible to work like this, but one should know to tell the story, because Srebrenica will always be an unfinished topic”, emphasizes Mehanović.
This film and theater director, producer, screenwriter, achieved his greatest success in 2005 when he won the BAFTA Award for the documentary “The Way We Played” (‘’Kako smo se igrali’’), in which he presented his view of beginning of the war in Bosnia.
