The catalogues of manuscripts of the Gazi Husrev-Begova library in Sarajevo were presented last night in the presence of numerous guests in the new facility of this scientific and cultural institution of B&H.
These are 18 volumes of the catalogue that includes more than 10.000 codes of priceless manuscripts written in Arabic, Turkish and Persian language, and in Bosnian language in Arabic script.
One of the promoters, Lejla Gazić from the Oriental Institute, said that behind the presentation of the catalogue, stands 50 years of hard work.
‘’Today, the doors are wide open for knowledge about the manuscripts produced during the centuries around the world, which found their final place in the Gazi Husrev-Begova library. The first volume was published 50 years ago, although Gazi Husrev-Beg began the whole process of cataloguing in 1537’’, she said.
She underlined that in catalogues there are more than 17.000 works within 10.000 codes, nothing that the creation of the catalogues required patience and years of work, and primarily the love for research of its contents and a number of facts.
The Islamic Cultural Heritage of London assisted in the creation of the catalogue of manuscripts.
