Pride Parade Takes Place Today in Sarajevo Amid Calls for Equality and Solidarity

The Bosnian Pride Parade will be held today in Sarajevo.

At the request of the organizers, the Sarajevo Canton Ministry of Transport has approved a temporary change to the traffic regime in the afternoon.

From 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, on the streets that include the route of the participants of the public gathering in motion – from the Historical and National Museums, on the streets of Zmaja od Bosne – Hiseta – Skenderija Bridge – Terezija – Suada and Olga Bridges – Vilsonovo šetalište – Historical and National Museums.

Traffic will be stopped in stages, in accordance with the passage of the participants of the event, and the assessment of the police officers who will provide security for the gathering and regulate traffic.

The gathering is planned from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on the green area between the National and Historical Museums, and the entrances will be from Vilsonovo šetalište and from the Historical Museum. The protest walk starts at 6:00 PM and will last until 7:00 PM, when participants return to the starting point, where speeches and a cultural and artistic program will be held until 9:00 PM.

The first BiH Pride parade was held in 2019, and the organizers emphasize that nothing has changed since then in terms of their rights.

Despite this, they continue their fight and today they will reiterate to the institutions five demands that they have been fighting for for five years, namely: legal recognition of same-sex unions, adoption of a law on gender identity, protection of LGBTIQ+ persons from domestic violence, introduction of hate crimes into criminal laws and amendments to the law on public gatherings in the Sarajevo Canton in accordance with European standards.
