Mustafa Ruznic, Prime Minister of the Una-Sana Canton (USC), at the regular session of the “Circle 99” on the topic: “It is necessary to find our own answers to contemporary security challenges in and towards Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH)”, spoke about the problems of the migrant crisis and the pandemic that this canton in BiH has faced in recent years.
“When we talk about the issue of security, we should start by defining what security actually is, and what a security system is. Security systems are first of all complex systems and must be efficiently organized and must be unique and function perfectly hierarchically. By the very definitions, we already see what the problem is when it comes to BiH,” explained Ruznic.
He recalled the events of a few years ago, the problems they faced – the pandemic and migration. He pointed out that, since the beginning of the migration, they had been crying out and calling on state institutions to get involved in solving migration problems.
We only succeeded after three years. We didn’t have a migrant crisis, we had a migrant wave, and we had migrations, but we had a crisis in the institutions of the state of BiH to respond to the migrant situation. What have we come to? We have become an illegal training ground for illegal migration to Europe. Migrants illegally crossed the eastern border, entered BiH illegally, stayed illegally in BiH, and illegally left BiH for the European Union (EU). Due to non-functioning, we have become a training ground for illegal migration towards the EU. Unique and efficient organization is the key to everything, and that is the problem when it comes to our country,” Ruznic emphasized.
Moreover, Ruznic believes that it is not about state institutions, but individuals who abuse state institutions to weaken the state.
“When we strengthen the institutions of this country, we also strengthen our country. Individuals do this very skillfully and well, and in such a way they endanger the entire security system. BiH, and especially USC, with its geostrategic position, has all the predispositions to be a very successful and developed country through wise management of the state and state policy. This is the ideal of all of us, of all patriots who dream of such a future for our country. Today, very severe tectonic shifts are taking place in BiH when it comes to the political scene, which greatly affects the security of our country,” explained Ruznic.
He pointed out that preserving security in today’s time and the time ahead, in the era of technological progress, migration, and humanitarian crises, is a big challenge not only for BiH but also for countries that have fewer internal problems and better-organized systems.
Furthermore, he believes that there is an attempt by powerful EU members to make BiH the one that will keep illegal migrants and protect the Schengen border of the EU from mass migration, Federalna reports.
