The Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina submitted to the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina a proposal to order the detention of suspect Mirza Kapić (43), who is under investigation for contacting members of the terrorist “Islamic State” and planning a terrorist attack on an Islamic religious building in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The suspect lives in Zenica, is a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and was previously convicted of a criminal offense related to terrorism and staying in foreign prisons, the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina announced.

The activities of the arrest of the suspect, as well as the search of the facilities he uses, were carried out in a coordinated action by the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH and the Agency for Investigation and Protection of BiH (SIPA) with the orders of the Court of BiH.

The suspect is under investigation and is accused of making contact with people who support radical movements and supporter structures of the “Islamic State” through electronic channels of communication, mobile phone and computer, using applications, and in his correspondence expressed a desire to carry out an attack with explosives on a mosque in BiH at the end of July this year.

The statement states that the suspect asked the aforementioned persons for instructions for the production of an explosive device with a detonator via a mobile phone, expressing his intention to attack members of the Islamic Community who publish proclamations against the Mujahideen and who report supporters of radical movements and the “Islamic State” to law enforcement agencies in BiH.

In the further planning and execution of the criminal act, Kapić was prevented by the action of Sipe and the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, and during the search, electronic devices, which were used by the suspect and which will be the subject of a detailed expert examination, were seized.

The measure of detention was proposed due to the danger that the suspect could obstruct the investigation, conceal evidence and exert influence on witnesses or accomplices, as well as commit a criminal offense again or complete what he had started.
