The foundation Heinrich Böll -Office in B&H with partner organizations Foundation CURE and Sarajevo Open Center is implementing the project “Coming out! Advocacy and protection of LGBT people rights”, financed by the EU.
Within this project, from April until September of this year qualitative research in the sector of health was conducted, aiming to determine the position of LGBT people, as well as gaining a deeper insight into the attitudes of the health sector staff. Results of this research are presented in the publication “Rights of LGBT people in B&H: Health”.
This publication presents the situation of LGBT people in the health sector, legal status of LGBT people through analyses of legislation, experiences of LGBT people as patients, relations of health sector staff towards LGBT people with the emphasis on transgender people, as well as positive experiences.
The main problem in the health system, except for the denial of health services for LGBT patients, is considered to be an inadequate level of knowledge of health staff that complicates providing quality health services to LGBT people.
The EU is financing the project “Coming out! Advocacy and protection of LGBT people rights” in the amount of 180.000 Euros from EIDHR 2012 funds.
