A rare photo of Halid Bešlić from 1977, taken during his military service in the JNA, was published on social networks today. Bešlić mentioned this period of his life before, emphasizing that his stay in the army played a big role in the development of his musical career.

“I was in Obrenovac in the army and by chance I was a favorite of captain Vlahović, who was in charge of sports and music. I sang him a Montenegrin song “Fill up your glasses, beautiful girl, so that the heroes get drunk, don’t regret my wine, my beauty, for our old friends.” He was all delighted and told me: “You have to sing in the garrison, your only problem is that you will always have to sing that song,” Bešlić said in an earlier conversation.
As he stated, he used the time he spent in the JNA to intensively practice his singing, and upon his return from the army he felt that he had gained enough confidence and experience to start performing in pubs, which later paved the way for his rich musical career.
The published photo once again reminded of lesser-known details from the life of one of the most famous folk music singers, whose beginnings were modest, but crucial to the success that followed.
