Qatar Charity (QC) has established two cattle farms in Bosnia and Herzegovina to provide a permanent income for 20 poor families, while the third farm is expected to be opened soon.

Through this project, the charity aims at economically empowering poor people and supporting the local economy through providing local products with competitive quality.

The first cow farm was set up in Jajce, a town and municipality located in Central Bosnia Canton of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, while the second farm was established in Ilijaš, a town, and municipality located in Sarajevo Canton. However, the third farm will soon be opened in Breza, a town, and municipality located in Zenica-Doboj Canton of the country.

With the generous support from Qatar, QC’s office in Sarajevo focuses on income-generating agricultural and livestock projects in the first place, given the widespread of pastureland in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the fact that Bosnian villagers are farmers by nature.

The most prominent projects included the distribution of dairy cows, sheep, apiaries, plastic greenhouses, fruit tree seedlings, as more than 20,000 fruitful shrubs have been distributed over the past two years.

The idea of the project is to set up a farm with all the necessary technical specifications, and form a genetically and productively herd of cows in accordance with international standards to produce milk, which is sold factories producing milk and dairy products, and to supply the local market with meat as the farm expands over time.

All cows are purchased from local pastures in support of the Bosnian economy. Feeding and veterinary testing are provided for the first phase of the project, until the production starts and reaches the self-sufficiency, in order to alleviate the suffering of the beneficiaries and ensure the success of the project.

During the month of August, QC’s office in Sarajevo has distributed 50 beehives to a number of families in northern Bosnia.

Preparations are underway for the implementation of various income-generating projects in 2018, including the distribution of 50 additional beehives, more than 8,000 different fruit tree seedlings, more than 50 sheep, and 6 poultry farms in addition to 10 plastic greenhouses and a number of plows, which will also be distributed.
