An emergency meeting of Arab and Islamic countries will be held in Doha today to address the recent Israeli attack on the Qatari capital. The summit will present a draft resolution that says Israel’s attacks on Qatar pose a threat to coexistence and efforts to normalize relations in the region. According to Reuters, the draft resolution states: “Israel’s brutal attack on Qatar and its continued hostile acts, including genocide, ethnic cleansing, starvation, siege, colonization activities and expansionist policies, threaten the prospects for peace and coexistence in the region.”
Iran’s Mehr news agency stressed that the summit must not result in another statement without concrete steps and actions.
“Egypt, Jordan, Turkey, and even Saudi Arabia are in danger, and Tel Aviv’s current political relations with these countries are an illusion. Israel will ignore them as soon as its interests demand it. Of course, the presence of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian at this summit is of utmost importance. In fact, the only point of hope for these meetings is Iran, because it has so far put forward the most decisive proposals for containing Israel. Without Iran’s presence, these meetings will be meaningless,” the agency said.
Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi also arrived in Qatar, posting on the social network X: “I am in Doha with a clear message from the Iranian people: Iran stands with Qatar and, indeed, with all Muslim brothers and sisters, especially against the scourge that terrorizes the region.”
As a reminder, Qatar strongly condemned the Israeli attack on Doha on Sunday, but at the same time promised to continue its mediation efforts aimed at ending the war in Gaza between Israel and the Palestinian militant movement Hamas.
Today’s summit in Doha is being held in a clear show of support for Qatar, following an attack believed to have targeted Hamas leaders residing in the Gulf state.
