For Preporod newspaper, Raisu-l-ulama Husein effendi Kavazović commented on the today’s verdict against war criminal Ratko Mladić who was sentenced to life in prison.
“This is an opportunity for everyone, especially for Serbian society and some of the Bosnian Serb officials, to face the past. The truth about what had happened here is the only basis for reconciliation. The importance of this verdict will be even greater if it contributes to the process of reconciliation. That process cannot unfold if war criminals and politics which resulted in war crime continue to be glorified. We regret that the Court has not accepted the evidence that genocide was also committed in other municipalities, not only in Srebrenica. We, and the people who survived them, know the extent of those crimes. The most important thing for all of us now is to look to the future and to renounce those who have been proven guilty of taking part in joint criminal enterprise by highest courts and to teach our children about that. We must not repeat our past mistakes and we must take the victims’ side,“ said Raisu-l-ulama Husein Kavazović in his comment on the verdict.
