Growing Rasperries : Securing the Existence for Many Families in BiH

malineUNDP has helped numerous families in BiH to ensure their existence independently through various projects; just one example is raspberry-growing in the municipalities Donji Vakuf, Gornji Vakuf-Uskoplje, and Prozor-Rama.

High-quality and virus-free raspberry seedlings are selected, with the certification and secured purchase of the entire crop, so that product can be placed on the EU market.

In this project 74 families with no members currently employed, returnees, single mothers and young people have been chosen. Sabit Smajic from Gornji Vakuf said that his whole family is living from agriculture.

“We planted two acres and we took this business seriously. This is of great benefit to us, so we have already prepared a parcel for expansion in the next year“, said Smajic.

Training for new raspberry growers was organized; professional and technical assistance for the preparation of parcels of land, and planting and maintenance has also been provided.

The agricultural cooperative AT from Donji Vakuf helped in the realization of this project, and as Nermin Sutkovic says, there are a lot of unemployed people who are happy to have this opportunity.
