Reconstruction of the square of Baščaršija to start soon

sebiljThe reconstruction of the Baščaršija square will start on Wednesday, the 2nd of September. The project of reconstruction of the oldest old town square includes changing the complete infrastructure.

Besides the construction work, reconstruction of water and sewage network as well as the sewage and rain sewers will take place, and the other installations will be replaced. Sarajevogas, Elektrodistribucija and BH Telecom will repair their networks, and after the completion of all works, Baščaršija square will be tiled. For the final layer are provided the paving stones of Jablanica rhodolite, the same ones that have been previously used for reconstruction of Sarači and Bravadžiluk streets.

Department for Investments, Utility Services and Inspection Activities of the Municipality Stari Grad, emphasized that all necessary authorizations for performing constructional works, as well as the approval of the project documentation by the Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports and the Institute for Protection of Monuments, were obtained.

Total project value is around 1.2 million BAM, and it is financed in equal proportions by the Municipality of Stari Grad and its brotherhood Municipality Osman Gazi (Bursa) from the Republic of Turkey.

Project implementer, the Turkish International Cooperation and Development Agency (TIKA), carried out the procedure of selection of contractors and it is managing funds for the reconstruction that were paid by the previously mentioned municipalities.
