REF in Tuzla: 150 Experts discussing Key Challenges of Energy Transition

ref2The Regional Energy Forum (REF) was officially opened in Tuzla yesterday. This is an opportunity for more than 150 experts to discuss topics in the field of energy policies, the use of new technologies, as well as directions of energy development.

On the two-day forum that is held for the third time in Tuzla are participating experts from Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Slovenia, China, Finland, Poland, Germany, Belgium, Austria, and BiH.

Representatives of the energy industry, regulatory agencies, government agencies, members of the academic community, specialized research and professional organizations, producers of equipment and engineering companies will discuss the key challenges in the field of energy transition and development of the electric power sector.

“It is very important to emphasize that there are not only electricity producers within the energy transition, but there are consumers as well. It is a new interest of the EU, and our idea is to be a little ahead of time, to transfer what we recognize as the changes from the professional standpoint to the environment, but with three support goals – economy, law, and technology,” said Prof. Dr. Slavko Krajcar from Zagreb.

Three thematic forums on the topics “Implementation of the Agreement on Energy Community in new circumstances,” then “Large investments in new energy facilities in the Western Balkans” and “The consumption of energy, security of supply and integration in the electricity market of the South East Europe” will be realized within the REF.

Prof. Dr. Mirza Kusljugic noted that the energy transition has already started in the minds of citizens of BiH, but that does not mean its implementation.

“The electricity system of the former Yugoslavia was designed back in 1970’s. It is a great thing that it managed to meet the needs of industry and environment until now, but this system cannot continue to work, not if we want to enter the EU at least,” concluded Kusljugic.
