The Eid reception organized by the Reis ul-Ulema of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina on the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr was held last night in the harem of the Emperor’s Mosque in Sarajevo.
The reception was attended by representatives of bodies and institutions of the Islamic Community, representatives of religious communities and churches, state and political bodies, diplomatic core and numerous cultural and public workers. They congratulated Eid Al-Fitr to Kavazović.
In his addressing speech, Reis ul-Ulema Kavazović said:
“Thank you for coming here tonight, to share these moments of our Eid joy. In the days of Eid Al-Fitr, we Muslims celebrate the end of fasting. We are happy because we fasted the month of Ramadan, after in the past month we experienced one tangible, mature, full and unlimited time. In the days of Ramadan, we also feel some emptiness, melancholy, almost sadness…
In these solemn moments of Eid Al-Fitr, I wish to remind you of some important messages of the sacred month of Ramadan, the messages that we miss in the present world in which the biggest value is only seen in what can be spent.
In the month of Ramadan, in the night we call Laylat al-Qadr, the holy Quran was published. The first words in the Quran ask from us to read. The reading contains the power that the Wise God uses to describe the night when the publishing of Quran began. Therefore, reading is power. That would be the first message of Ramadan.
Through fasting in the month of Ramadan, we have learned that you acquire things only when you renounce on things. Renunciation is the only way to have something. Through renunciation, we have learned that religion is nothing else but gratitude. Through fasting, we have learned how to work on ourselves and how difficult and important that is. In Ramadan, we have learned how to take care of ourselves.
In the month of Ramadan, we regretted our sins and asked the Merciful God to forgive us, to have mercy on us. Because, brothers and sisters, as Rumi says, “Crying and regret give a huge power. Whoever sees the end is bestowed with blessing. Wherever water flows, green it will be, the Mercy will be shown wherever a tear falls…”
In the month of Ramadan, we were deepening our solidarity with those who do not have water, who do not have food, with the impoverished ones, with family, friends, neighbors. We were performing one of the five fundamental duties in Islam, the duty of cleaning our property through giving zakat and sadakah. We shared iftars in brotherly love.
This year’s Ramadan was a holy, blessed time, too. I congratulate to all those who fasted. Those who did not, and who could and should, I wish more luck next time. To you who are sharing with us the Eid joy, I express my gratitude,” said Kavazović.
