The Prime Minister of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Nermin Nikšić, and the Federal Minister of Health, Nediljko Rimac, held a meeting in Sarajevo today with representatives of China Sinopharm International Corporation and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Bosnia and Herzegovina on establishing a framework for investment in the health sector in the Federation.

It was emphasized that this includes the design and construction of completely new, comprehensive health institutions and facilities of the secondary or tertiary level of health care, significant financial investments in existing capacities, as well as improving the quality of health services.

After the meeting, Rimac told the media that the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina will enter into an arrangement with the largest Chinese company in the health sector, Sinopharm, within which 52 million euros will be invested in the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo and 48 million euros in the cantonal hospital in Livno.

He stated that KCUS was chosen because some of the clinics within its structure are still located in substandard buildings that are more than 100 years old, while a good part of the central facility has not yet been completed, except for the rough work.

Rimac added that the Livno hospital covers 20 percent of the territory of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and that it needs investments to provide quality secondary or tertiary health care services in the area between Bihać and Mostar.

Director of the KCUS, Alen Pilav, said that the largest health institution in the Federation has great needs for development in order to follow trends in modern medicine, which will be made possible by funds from the arrangement with Sinopharm.

Director of the Livno Cantonal Hospital, Irena Periša, emphasized that the construction of the new hospital will represent a long-term benefit for all patients and improve the quality of health care.

It is planned that in the coming period a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation between the Government of the Federation and China Sinopharm International Corporation will be signed, which the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina adopted at its session on April 2, 2026.
