The rescuers of the Mountain Rescue Service of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina successfully completed the rescue of two foreign nationals on the ridge between the Neretva and Rakitnica canyons, near the peak of Vis, with the support and assistance of EUFOR helicopters.

This morning, GSS Station Konjic received a report about the accident of two foreign nationals on the ridge between the Neretva and Rakitnica canyons, near the peak of Vis.

Eleven rescuers from GSS Konjic were immediately sent to the location of the accident, while additional members, as well as rescuers from other cities, were put on standby.

It took the rescuers two hours to arrive at such a remote location, which was expected for an inaccessible location.

After the examination, it was established that the German citizen (41) has a leg injury and that a very long and complex transport is required due to the demanding terrain.

First aid was provided to the victim, additional forces were sent to the field, and procedures for helicopter support and evacuation were immediately started.

“It took about five hours to transfer requests from different structures, and during that time the rescuers carried out an extremely demanding transport over very inaccessible terrain. After almost seven hours spent in action, they expected that the transport would last at least as long if they continued by land.” , stated from GSS.

After many urgings of the GSS, they added, the victim was transferred to KUCS by an EUFOR helicopter around 18:00, where she will receive medical care.

“This quick and coordinated rescue operation once again highlights the key role of helicopters in providing emergency aid in hard-to-reach areas. Thanks to the efforts of the GSS teams, the injured person will receive appropriate medical assistance in the shortest possible time,” they point out from the GSS and thank EUFOR who once again put his resources at the service of protecting human lives.
