The B&H Olympic Committee started again the restoration of the Olympic Museum ‘Vila Mandić’. The Commission is composed of distinguished sports and cultural employees, as well as experts who are in charge of this project. French Ambassador to B&H Roland Gilles is also part of the Commission.
There have been discussions for many years on the restoration of the Olympic Museum in Sarajevo, one of the most important institutions of the Winter Olympics 1984. Several years after the war, the Olympic Committee began works on the reconstruction of ‘Vila Mandić’. However, the job was never completed.
‘’This project is is very dear to France. Restoring a museum that was destroyed during the siege of Sarajevo means facing the painful side of Sarajevo. We want to send a message of peace and reconciliation’’, said Gilles, who is also the initiator of the reconstruction of the museum.
Other members of the Commission are Edin Numankadić, Director of the Olympic Museum, Ivo Komšić, Mayor of Sarajevo, Igor Golijanin, Deputy Mayor of Eastern Sarajevo, Jasmina Pašalić, President of the Foundation ‘Sarajevo Heart of Europe’, Predrag Pašić, former athlete, Amel Mekić, professional athlete, engineer Faruk Širbegović and architect Amir Vuk Zec.
This building has entered the list of cultural objects of special national interest for B&H and is one of the most representative architectural buildings of Austro-Hungarian cultural heritage.
