Romania supports BIH on its path to the EU

President of Romania Traian Basescu and Chairman of BIH Presidency Nebojša Radmanović talked yesterday in Bucharest about European integrations and economic cooperation between two countries.

On the joint press conference, Basescu said that Romania will continue to support BiH in the process of negotiations for becoming the member of the EU, for which certain pre-conditions must be met, mostly Copenhagen Criteria.

‘Romania supports the policy of open doors to countries of the Western Balkans and the accession to NATO and the EU, concerning the fact that the security of the Balkans is an element of security of Romania’ said Basescu.

He said that Romania is ready to participate in important projects for BIH in the field of infrastructure, tourism and development of water energy capacities, for which an urgent revision of existing bilateral agreements is necessary in order to harmonize it with the EU regulations.

Radmanović noted that during the last 17 to 18 years, Romania helped BIH immensely by sending its troops to ensure stability and establishing non-visa regime.

Radmanović talked about the efforts of BiH in joining the EU and about possible scepticism towards the EU, if that process would last too long.

He noted that there is a possible improvement of economic and political cooperation with Romania, and today, the agreement on economic cooperation was signed, in order to speed up trade between two countries and possible investments in BiH.

Chairman of BIH Presidency also met with representative of the Romanian Senate Crin Antonescu.
