RS nationa assemblyAfter the National Assembly of Republika Srpska adopted Law on Public Order and Peace, the Office of the High Representative to BiH (OHR) warned that freedom of expression and open public discussion are constituent parts of pluralism, tolerance and acceptance of diversity, which are crucial for democratic society.

Namely, deputies of RS NA from the ruling majority adopted the Law, which treats social networks as “public space”.

Spokesperson of OHR Eldar Subašić told FENA that the RS authorities did not pay enough attention to warnings that lack of precision in the Law on Public Order and Peace could cause unacceptable limitations of freedom of expression.

”It is in the interest of the RS authority to take additional steps in that regard and convince the public in sincere intentions of those who proposed the Law. It is now crucial for the RS authorities to support freedom of expression and fundamental rights of all citizens, which are constituent parts of pluralist democratic society,” concluded Subašić.

Forty-six deputies voted for this law, while the opposition did not attend the voting procedure because they believe the Law in undemocratic and that it cannot be fixed even with amendments.
