Russia said on Monday that the next round of consultations between Moscow and Washington was canceled at the initiative of the United States (U.S.).

In a written statement by the spokeswoman of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, it is stated that the next meeting within the framework of consultations between Russia and the U.S. for the normalization of the activities of their diplomatic missions was canceled “at the initiative of the U.S.negotiators.”

“We hope that the break they have made will not be too long,” Zakharova continued, without stating the reason for the cancellation.

The U.S. authorities did not immediately confirm or comment on Zakharova’s statements.

Consultations aimed at normalizing the work of the Russian and U.S. embassies and resolving obstacles in bilateral relations were held in the Turkish metropolis of Istanbul on February 27th and April 10th.

Last week, the Russian ambassador to the U.S., Alexander Darchiev, said that the third round of negotiations between the two countries would be held in Moscow “in the near future,” but noted that the decision to move the location of the negotiations to the capitals of the two countries was “preliminary.”
