Safet Zec’s New Exhibition “Prayer” opened in Sarajevo

Safet Zec, a renowned artist from Bosnia and Herzegovina, presented his latest exhibition “Prayer” in Sarajevo on Friday through a selection of works that captivate the audience with their strong depiction of the universality of prayer and hope for the betterment of man.

The exhibition was organized by Europe House Sarajevo in cooperation with the Ivanka and Safet Zec Foundation.

Ambassador Johann Sattler, Head of Delegation and Special Representative of the European Union in Bosnia and Herzegovina, said that art and culture are a powerful medium that brings people together. He expressed his satisfaction that he lives in a country, as he said, with a rich cultural and artistic scene.

“Tonight, I am especially pleased to have the opportunity to host the living legend Safet Zec. The idea of this exhibition was born three or four months ago in Safet’s apartment, a studio not far from here. We talked over coffee and the idea to do a joint project was born. The exhibition is of another dimension. We are glad that we have the opportunity to offer it to the citizens of Sarajevo and BiH”, said Sattler and added:

“I am a big fan of his art and I would single out two things that I see in his art, one is pain, the other is hope. It’s really something that touches all of us when we watch the news every night, whether it’s coming from Gaza or Ukraine.”

Safet Zec, the author of the exhibition, said that he hopes and believes that his exhibition in Europe House will start the activities of art performances and that citizens will continue to gather at that place for cultural events.

“It’s part of a dream of mine… when we pass here, Ferhadija. Tonight, that dream is coming true, to see an exhibition, not mine, from Ferhadija. It is magnificent and beautiful, and of course we should dedicate this kind of house, one of the most beautiful from the Austro-Hungarian period, to cultural events,” said Zec.

The opus “Prayer” joined Safet Zec’s earlier works from the cycle such as “Exodus” and “Embrace”.

“It’s probably a trilogy or a big unit. That’s my passion – love of hands. Prayer as a civilizing, planetary act, since the beginning of man. I wanted to call the exhibition ‘Pray, whatever, but pray’. It’s an artistic challenge. There are many reasons why I was interested in it and why I am happy,” said Zec.

After the opening, Safet Zec’s exhibition “Prayer” will be available to citizens from December 18 this year to January 31 next year, from Monday to Friday in Europe House Sarajevo, near the Eternal Flame, AA writes.
