The Embassy of Japan in Bosnia and Herzegovina announces that the Japanese Film Festival will be held in Sarajevo from 16th to 18th of January 2026 in cooperation with the Japan Foundation and Kino Meeting Point, featuring screenings of three Japanese films.

One of the featured films, ITOMOCHI, showcases the Japanese traditional musical instrument known as “Tsugaru shamisen“, which plays an important role in the story and adds cultural depth to the film.

In conjunction with the screening of ITOMICHI, a special lecture on “Tsugaru shamisen“ will be held on January 17.This lecture would give the audiences a deeper understanding of this unique aspect of Japanese traditional music and help to enjoy the film more deeply.

Japan and Bosnia and Herzegovina will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in February 2026. We hope that this film festival and the lecture will serve as a bridge of friendship and mutual understanding between our two countries.
